Shannon Boxx Named All-WUSA First Team

August 20, 2003 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
New York Power News Release

NEW YORK, NY - New York Power midfielder Shannon Boxx has been named a First Team All-WUSA selection. The 5'8 midfielder was acquired by the Power in an off-season trade and quickly became the backbone of the Power's midfield. The Redondo Beach native had been selected as the Power's team MVP earlier this month by the players, coaches and media members in New York.

Boxx, 26, began the season filling in for injured central defenders before moving to her more natural defensive midfield role by mid-season. She completed the 2003 campaign ranked third in assists with 8 - behind only Mia Hamm of Washington and Maren Meinert of Boston. Boxx also added one goal on the season - a timely tally to tie the Atlanta Beat 1-1 on July 26th.

Boxx, was also selected to the US Women's National training camp roster in preparation for the Women's World Cup. She is the only uncapped player on the roster and was called into camp for the first time this year.

The New York Power is one of eight professional women's soccer teams that make up the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the world's premier women's soccer league. 2004 New York Power season tickets are available now.
