Milbrett, Pearce and Boxx Named to U.S. Women's National Team Roster

New York Power News Release

NEW YORK, NY - New York Power forward Tiffeny Milbrett, defender Christie Pearce and midfielder Shannon Boxx were selected to the 29-player U.S. Women's National Team roster for pre-WWC training camp. The USA will train from Aug. 21-24 in San Diego, then have four days off before regrouping in Los Angeles for training at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., from Aug. 29-Sep. 3. The team will then travel to San Jose, Calif., where the U.S. will be based from Sept. 4-7. That schedule includes two matches, the first against Costa Rica on Sept. 1 at the Home Depot Center (8 p.m. PT on ESPN2) in the first-ever game for a U.S. National Team at the sparkling new stadium and the second on Sept. 7 against Mexico at Spartan Stadium (10 a.m. PT on ESPN).

Milbrett, who tied a U.S. record with five goals in a match against Panama at the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup last November, is just two goals away from hitting the magical 100-goal mark, an achievement previously reached by just four players in international soccer history, two of them Americans (Mia Hamm and Michelle Akers) and two Italians (Carolina Morace and Elisabetta Vignotto).

Pearce, a U.S. starter in the 2000 Olympics, recently reached the 100-cap mark. She has become a regular with the team again after suffering an ACL injury at the end of the 2001 WUSA season, and remains the only player from a small soccer school (Monmouth University in N.J.) to achieve success with the U.S. Women's National Team.

Boxx, the only uncapped player on the roster, was called into camp for the first time this year. A hard working midfielder, Boxx finished the 2003 WUSA season with a goal and eight assists for the New York Power. For her outstanding season, she was named Power MVP by coaches, teammates and media members..

U.S. coach April Heinrichs has yet not announced the date she will name the 2003 U.S. World Cup team.
