SAN JOSE (Oct. 16, 2002) – Marlene Bjornsrud, general manager of the San Jose CyberRays, will be a featured participant in the Commonwealth Club of California's panel discussion of ``Soccer in America: Past, Present and Future'' on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in Palo Alto.

Bjornsrud, who put together the organization that won the inaugural WUSA championship in 2002, will be one of five panelists including Jerry Smith, coach of the NCAA women's soccer champion Santa Clara Broncos and coach of the U.S. under-21 national team; Bret Simon, coach of the Stanford men's team; Brian Hall, the first U.S.-born referee to work a men's World Cup match; Andrew Ransome, a California Youth Soccer Association instructor and Olympic Development Program coach; and a yet-to-be-named official from the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer.

The event, to be held in the main theater of the Cubberly Community Center at 4000 Middlefield Road, begins with 6:15 p.m. registration, panel discussion at 6:45 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer session from 7:30-7:45 p.m. Tickets are $7 for Commonwealth Club members and students; $13 for non-members.
