Power Fall 3-2 Against BlueClaws

Lakewood Township, NJ - The West Virginia Power lost 3-2 to the Lakewood BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park on Thursday evening. The 'Claws scored three early runs and West Virginia could not complete the comeback, leaving eight men on base including six over the final five innings.

Lakewood opened the scoring against West Virginia starter Stephan Meyer in the bottom of the second. Daniel Brito singled and scored from first on a double from Luke Williams, who later scored on a steal of third and a throwing error for a 2-0 BlueClaws lead. Lakewood added a run in the third on a triple and a sac fly.

In the top of the sixth, West Virginia sent seven to the plate, scoring two runs on three hits. With two on and one out, Henrry Rosario singled home Adrian Valerio from second. With two outs, Yoel Gonzalez singled off of reliever Casey Brown's foot, driving in Clark Eagan from third to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Power left two on in the sixth, one in the seventh, a man at third in the eighth and the tying run at second in the top of the ninth.

Mauricio Llovera (2-4) pitched five and third, allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts for the win. Will Hibbs recorded the final four outs for his 19th save of the year. Meyer (3-1) allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits over five-plus innings, striking out five with two walks and one hit batter.

The Power took two of three in the series and head into action Friday tied for first with Greensboro and Hickory. West Virginia travels to Delmarva to open the final series of the 2017 regular season on Friday night. The Power will start Oddy Nunez and the Shorebirds will put Matthias Dietz on the mound at 7:05 P.M.
