Powell Powers Legends Past D-Fenders

ONTARIO, CA - The Texas Legends broke a six-game losing streak Saturday night against the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Dallas Mavericks assignee Dwight Powell posted 35 points as the Legends routed the D-Fenders 124-120.

Dwight Powell and Jabari Brown set the tone early for a highly offensive battle as both teams shot over 55% in the first quarter. Powell went 7-for-7 to pace the Legends with 16 points as Brown hit 5-of-7 for 14 for the D-Fenders. The Legends took their largest lead of the night with a nine-point advantage but headed into the second up by four. Roscoe Smith powered the D-Fenders through a strong second quarter with 10 points and 4 rebounds giving Los Angeles a two-point advantage at the half.

The two teams saw nine lead changes in the first half and an equal amount in the third quarter alone. After shooting above 55% the entire game, both teams dropped below 40% in the third as the Legends regained control 97-94 heading into the final 12 minutes. Texas doubled the D-Fenders' points in the paint 16-8, but could not manage to pull away from the home team. With 47 seconds on the clock, Vander Blue put the D-Fenders back in control, but it would prove to be their last of the night. Eric Griffin hit a jumper followed by a three-point play from Powell. Blue once again put the D-Fenders on the board, cutting the difference to two, but Powell sealed the Legends victory sinking two at the free throw line.

Powell led the Legends with 35 points, 7 rebounds. Eric Griffin added 20 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high 3 blocks while Ricky Ledo added 14 points, 11 assists. Jarrid Famous came off the bench to add a third double-double for the Legends with 13 points, 12 rebounds.

Jabari Brown had a team-high 28 points for the D-Fenders and Vander Blue followed closely with 25 and 6 assists. Jamaal Franklin added a double-double of 23 points, 11 rebounds off the bench and Roscoe Smith added the team's only other double-double performance of 12 points, 14 rebounds.
