Potomac Nationals News Release
WILMINGTON, NC) The Potomac Nationals wrapped up their first series win of 2010 - and they did it in impressive fashion, shutting out the Wilmington Blue Rocks 8-0 at Frawley Stadium. The win secured a split on the six-game road trip for the Nationals and pulled them closer to the division-leading Frederick Keys, who will come to Pfitzner Stadium for four games beginning Monday night.
Evan Bronson was brilliant in a surprise start, throwing five innings of shutout ball for his first win of the season. Bronson yielded only two hits, struck out two and walked just one Blue Rocks hitter. Martin Beno and Cole Kimball both came on to pitch two scoreless innings to complete the shutout.
Potomac got going offensively right out of the gates; after a one-out single from Steve Lombardozzi, Mike Burgess hit a double to left center field to score the Nats' second basemen. Burgess trotted home on a Tim Pahuta single.
Pahuta was back at it in the fourth inning - he crushed a two-run homer to right field to stretch the Potomac lead to four. They added a fifth run in the next inning. After another single from Lombardozzi and his second stolen base of the afternoon, he scored on a wild pitch from Riquy Pena. Lombardozzi scored his third run in the seventh inning, and the Nats wrapped up the scoring with a two-run homer by Brian Peacock.
Derek Norris made his debut on Sunday, and he impressed. The catcher threw out two baserunners at second base in three innings.
The Nationals open a four-game series with the Frederick Keys Monday night. Righthander Marcos Frias takes the hill for the Nats against lefthander Rick Zagone. The broadcast can be heard on potomacnationals.com beginning at 6:45 p.m.
