Postula Scores Lone Goal in Knights Loss
October 22, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release
Brett Postula scored late in the second period, but the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights were unable to dig themselves out of a three goal deficit, losing to the Johnstown Tomahawks, 3-1 Saturday evening at Revolution Ice Centre.
Johnstown's opening strike came when Ethan Webb slapped a pass ahead to Joe Kile at the Wilkes-Barre blue line for a breakaway. Kile sniped the top shelf behind Knights' goalie Zach Stejskal for the 1-0 lead five minutes into the first.
Scoring continued and finished in the second period with the last three goals of the game. Webb found himself as a helper once more for the visiting team. This time, the Tomahawks defenseman put a shot onto goalie Samuel Vyletelka, who came in for the final two periods of Saturday's game for Wilkes-Barre. Vyletelka kicked the initial shot to his right, only to leave a wide open rebound for Joey Baez who pulled the trigger.
Alex Wilkins got credit for the third Johnstown goal which came three seconds after the Knights finished a penalty kill. Similar to the previous night where Johnstown tied the game off an expiring penalty, Alex Wilkins floated a center point wrist shot that saw traffic in front of the net and was able to bounce low and past Vyletelka.
Wilkes-Barre would begin their rallying effort late in the middle frame with Brett Postula scoring at the 18:11 mark.
The play began with a dumped puck in the Johnstown end. The Tomahawks went for a clear, but Shay Donavan would knock it down at the blue line and throw one at the cage. Postula was there for a rebound and able to whack it past Tomahawks' keeper Cooper Lukenda.
The Knights outshot Johnstown 14-12 in the third, which also included a power play, but Lukenda made 38 saves in the win, handing Wilkes-Barre their third straight loss.
Upon Saturday's game concluding, so too did the Knights' five game home stand. The team checks in at 5-7-1 on the season and went 2-3 over the recent stretch at Revolution Ice Centre. Johnstown improved their East Division lead with the pair of wins, standing at 10-4 and with 20 points are now four ahead of second place New Jersey and nine on top of Wilkes-Barre.
October concludes for the Knights next weekend when the team travels to Jamestown, New York, where the newly relocated Jamestown Rebels await for a pair of meetings at Northwest Arena.
