Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - For four days during the 2018 baseball season the Ports will become the Caballos de Stockton, translating to the Stockton Horses. The rebrand is part of Minor League Baseball's inaugural "Copa de la Diversion" celebration, embracing the culture and values of Hispanic/Latino communities.

The initiative will take place at Banner Island Ballpark beginning on Thursday, June 21st and conclude on Sunday, June 24th where the Ports will wear special themed jerseys and caps to celebrate the occasion.

Other aspects of the Ports' four game "Copa de la Diversion" series will feature the following: cap giveaway presented by San Joaquin Regional Transit District (6/21), Gabriel Flores Jr. bobblehead giveaway presented by ABLE Charter Schools (6/22), post-game fireworks show presented by Food 4 Less/Rancho San Miguel Markets (6/23), and an appearance by former Oakland Athletic Coco Crisp presented by Lovotti, Inc. (6/24).

"We're excited to participate and are looking forward to celebrating this initiative with our fans locally and nationwide," said President Pat Filippone.

Why the Caballos? As found in the San Joaquin Historian, early Hispanics in the area had a fondness and appreciation for hard-working horses. Additionally, Hispanic ranch managers built strong reputations breaking wild horses, making the Caballos a relatable and deeply-rooted symbol in San Joaquin County.

Thirty three minor league teams across the country will participate in the 2018 MiLB "Copa de la Diversion" initiative and the overall event series will kick off on April 8th in Round Rock, Texas and end on September 2nd in Rancho Cucamonga, California.

The Stockton Ports' Opening Night is scheduled for Thursday, April 5th vs. the Lake Elsinore Storm. Ports ticket memberships, group tickets, mini-plans, and individual game tickets are currently available for purchase online at stocktonports.com, by calling the Ports front office at (209) 644-1900, or by visiting the Box Office. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
