Stockton Ports News Release

FRESNO, Ca. - Angello Infante and James Gonzales combined to hold the Grizzlies to just one run on seven hits and the Ports scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 6-1 victory over the Grizzlies in the series finale on Sunday evening at Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno.

After the two teams traded zeroes for the first three innings, the Grizzlies (60-30) jumped on top with a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Colin Simpson and Zac Veen began the frame with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners for Drew Romo, who was robbed of extra bases on a diving play by Junior Perez on a drive to right center field. Although Perez's catch kept the Grizzlies from easily scoring two runs on the play, Simpson scored on the sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Fresno.

The Ports (38-52) came back to tie the ballgame in the top of the fifth. Perez led off the inning with a base hit to center field and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Danny Bautista. After Robert Puason singled to left field to put runners on the corners, Joshwan Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Perez, making it 1-1.

With five runs in the top of the sixth, the Ports took the lead for good. Kevin Richards was hit by a pitch with one out to get the inning started, and Brayan Buelvas followed with a line drive over the wall in left field for a two-run homer to give the Ports a 3-1 lead. Perez extended the inning with a two out single and came in to score on a triple to left center by Bautista to make it 4-1. Bautista scored when Puason reached on an error by Fresno first baseman Trevor Boone, and Wright followed with a double down the right field line to score Puason from first, making it 6-1.

Ports' reliever James Gonzalez allowed just two hits over four shutout innings of relief, including a 1-2-3 ninth, to nail down the victory for Stockton.

Infante (2-0) got the win for the Ports, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings while Grizzlies' starter Austin Kitchen (1-2) took the loss giving up four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. Gonzalez picked up his first save of the season with his four shutout frames.

The Ports continue their 12-game road trip on Tuesday when they begin a six game series against the Nuts at John Thurman Field in Modesto. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
