LANCASTER, Calif. - After having Tuesday night's game postponed due to severe winds, the Stockton Ports and Lancaster JetHawks split a doubleheader on Wednesday night at The Hangar. The JetHawks took the first game by a final of 5-1 while the Ports used late runs in the second game to earn a 7-3 victory. With the win in the second game of the twin-bill, the Ports earned a series victory, taking two of three games while in Lancaster.

In the first game, Lancaster scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Ports starter Dylan Covey (1-1). J.D. Davis opened the scoring with an RBI single to center while the JetHawks plated a second run when A.J. Reed grounded into a double play to take a 2-0 lead.

Lancaster widened its lead in the fourth when Chase McDonald doubled in a run with two on and nobody out. For a second time, the JetHawks added a run on a double play, this time grounded into by Jack Mayfield, to make it a 4-0 lead.

Covey gave up a leadoff single to Chan-Jong Moon in the fifth inning and Moon would score later in the inning on an RBI single by Davis to give the JetHawks a 5-0 advantage.

Covey suffered his first loss after allowing five runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work. Tyler Hollstegge pitched the final inning-and-two-thirds scoreless for the Ports in Game 1.

Stockton's lone run of the contest came in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Michael Soto off JetHawks reliever Adrian Houser. JetHawks starter Edison Frias (2-0) earned the win in the first game, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Ports opened the scoring in the third when Chih-Fang Pan led off with a triple and scored two batters later scored on a J.P. Sportman RBI single to give Stockton a 1-0 lead. The JetHawks countered in the third inning when James Ramsay drove in Jobduan Morales on a sac-fly to right field to tie the contest at 1-1.

Lancaster's third inning run was unearned due to a fielding error earlier in the inning and was the only run allowed by Ports starter Andres Avila, who received a no-decision after working 2.1 innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out two.

Stockton took the lead back in the fifth. With two on and two out, Franklin Barreto tripled to straight away center off JetHakws starter Brian Holmes (0-1) to give the Ports a 3-1 advantage.

Holmes suffered the loss, going five innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six.

After Jonathan Joseph (1-0) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings for the Ports, Brendan McCurry (SV, 2) entered the game to start the sixth and gave up an infield single to J.D. Davis to start the inning. Davis later scored on an RBI single by Chsae McDonald to cut the Ports lead to 3-2.

Stockton, in need of insurance, went on to plate four runs in the top of the seventh off JetHawks reliever Ambiorix De Leon. With runners at the corners and nobody out, Barreto laid down a bunt-single to the right side to score B.J. Boyd and make it a 4-2 lead. John Nogowski followed with an RBI double to left and Michael Soto added a two-run triple to center to balloon the Stockton lead to 7-2.

De Leon allowed four runs on five hits in an inning-plus for Lancaster.

Joseph picked up the win for Stockton while McCurry, who gave up another run in the seventh on a sac-fly by Davis, picked up his second save in as many chances.

After taking two of three in Lancaster and going 3-4 overall on their season-opening road trip, the Ports return to Banner Island Ballpark for their home opener on Thursday to start a four-game series with the Visalia Rawhide. Tim Atherton (0-0, 1.80 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Visalia right-hander Blayne Weller (0-0, 3.00 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
