Ports Launch "Casey At The Bat" Art Contest

STOCKTON, Calif. -The Stockton Ports, 11-time champions of the California League, are inviting area students (K-College) to submit original artwork and designs for a "Casey at the Bat" tribute display, which will be showcased all year long at Banner Island Ballpark.
The Ports are looking to pay tribute to the legend and legacy of "Casey at the Bat" poem by Ernest Lawrence Thayer. According to baseball tradition, Thayer's classic poem was inspired by the 1888 Stockton team that played along the Delta Channel, as the waterfront area was called "Mudville" at that time. The Ports are looking for a great original art piece that will highlight the team's connection to "Casey at the Bat."
Students of any age may submit artwork for the tribute display. The winning student will sign their display in an on-field, pre-game ceremony during Opening Weekend this season. The artwork will be displayed year-round by the Season Ticket Holder gate at Banner Island Ballpark.
The artwork must fit an 8-foot 8-inch by 8-foot 8-inch (8'8" by 8'8") space. The artwork must include the poem "Casey at the Bat" with a credit line for Thayer. It must also include references to Banner Island Ballpark and Stockton.
All artwork and design submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 19. Students can submit their work in digital form (.jpeg or.eps preferred) or on canvas, and any art medium will be accepted. The Ports will announce the winner on Wednesday, March 24.
Digital submissions under 10 MB can be emailed to Ports Marketing Director Justin Gray at jgray@stocktonports.com. Digital submissions over 10 MB can be mailed to the Ports at 404 W. Fremont St, Stockton CA 95203 or dropped off at the Ports Front Offices at the ballpark, on a disc or flash drive. Any hard copy submissions can also be dropped off at the Ports Front Offices.
