Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

The Winterhawks are on the road to Swift Current, Saskatchewan, where they open their six-game trip through the East Division tomorrow night. The Winterhawks go into the trip on an eight-game winning streak, their longest since the 1997-98 season. Not only are the Winterhawks the hottest team in the WHL, but across the 60-team Canadian Hockey League as well, as the eight straight wins is also the longest current streak among Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) teams as well.

The Winterhawks sit atop the WHL in numerous categories, including points (29), wins (14), winning percentage (.853) and penalty killing (.897). The team's 14-2-0-1 record ties them with the OHL's Mississauga St. Michael's Majors for the best record in the CHL.

When Sven Bartschi scored with an assist from Ty Rattie Saturday against Everett, it extended both players' point streaks to 11 games apiece. Rattie has eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points during his streak, and his 30 points on the season places him third in the WHL. Bartschi has 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points during his streak, and his 26 points on the season leads all WHL rookies.

It marks the third straight season the Winterhawks have had at least one player with a point streak of 10+ games, as Luke Walker had an 11-game streak last season, and Chris Francis had a 12-game streak in 2008-09. Rattie and Bartschi have some work to do to reach the franchise record, which is a 45-game streak by Jim Benning in the 1980-81 season. Both players will be eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

In the coming weeks, Winterhawks players will be assisting in numerous community initiatives heading into the holiday season, including serving meals to the homeless and visiting local hospitals. More information about these and other community visits will be forthcoming as soon as schedules become finalized.
