Portland Winterhawks News Release

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

Defenseman Luca Sbisa, acquired by the Winterhawks at the WHL Trade Deadline, is en route to Portland today and is expected to be at tomorrow's practice at Valley Ice Arena. Any media who wish to interview Sbisa should contact Graham Kendrick to make arrangements.

Chris Francis had an outstanding game Saturday night in Seattle, registering a goal and three assists for four points, and finished with a +5 ranking. Francis now has 14 points in 10 games this month. With 58 points on the season, he leads the Winterhawks in scoring and is just nine points behind the career-high 67 he had last season. His recent hot streak has also vaulted him into a tie for 13th in league scoring.

If Francis is putting up points, it usually means linemate Luke Walker is too. Walker has points in all eight games he's played this month since getting back from the World Juniors, totaling five goals and six assists for 11 points in that span.

Goaltender Ian Curtis stopped 29 of 30 shots in a 6-1 win at Seattle Saturday, and followed it up with 51 saves on 52 shots in last night's win over Vancouver, for a total of 80 saves on 82 shots over the two games, a total save percentage of 97.6%. He's now moved into 10th in the WHL in save percentage at 90.6% for the season, and is tied for ninth in the league with 18 wins, despite missing three weeks in November with a shoulder injury. His outstanding weekend has made him the WHL's nominee for the CHL Goalie of the Week, and award he previously won for the week ending Dec. 13.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

Mascot hockey bragging rights are on the line Saturday as the Portland Winterhawks host their annual Mascot Night, presented by Comcast, at the Rose Garden. Tom-A-Hawk is inviting his mascot friends to help entertain fans of all ages, and the night will also feature a mascot hockey game during the second intermission.
