
Portland Stops Cubs' Win Streak

The Portland Beavers handed Iowa their first loss in six games, as they defeated the Cubs 7-4, Monday night at Principal Park.
The Beavers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kyle Phillips triple and scored on Nick Green's single. Portland added another three runs in the third inning to extend their lead, 4-0. Cedric Hunter and Josh Barfield hit back-to-back doubles before Wily Mo Pena hit a two-run homer.
Iowa got on the board in their half of the inning as Matt Camp led off with a walk. He later scored on Darwin Barney's single to cut the Beavers' lead, 4-1.
Portland added another pair of runs in the fourth inning when Mike Baxter and Pena hit RBI singles. The scoring didn't stop their for the Beavers, as they tallied another run in the fifth when Chris Stewart homered, making it 7-1.
Micah Hoffpauir extended his season-high hit streak to 18 games with a sixth-inning double. He later scored on Bryan LaHair's groundout. Portland reliever Scott Munter threw to three batters, walking all of them, cutting the Portland lead 7-3. Bobby Scales gave Iowa its final run on a solo homer in the seventh inning. It was his sixth home run of the season.
Hung-Wen Chen (2-2) was tagged with the loss for Iowa. He allowed six hits on nine runs through four innings. Cory Luebke (3-0) picked up the win, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing three runs.
