Portland Pirates to Face Syracuse Crunch in Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates will start their road to the 2013 Calder Cup against the Syracuse Crunch in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Crunch and Pirates will play a best of five series, with Syracuse hosting games 1, 2 and 5 if necessary. The Pirates will host game 3, and a game 4 if necessary.

Game 1 - Saturday, Apr. 27, 7:30 p.m. War Memorial at Oncenter

Game 2 - Sunday, Apr. 28, 7:30 p.m., War Memorial at Oncenter

Game 3 - Thursday, May 2, 7 p.m., Cumberland County Civic Center

Game 4 - Friday, May 3, 7 p.m., Cumberland County Civic Center (if necessary)

Game 5 - Sunday, May 5, 7:30 p.m., War Memorial at Oncenter (if necessary)

The Portland Pirates are the AHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes and are the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference. This is Portland's first playoff appearance since the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs, and the 15th in their 20 year history. Portland has won the Calder Cup once, in their inaugural season in 1993-94.

Syracuse is the AHL Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning and are the 2012-13 East Division Champions. Led by the Les Cunningham Award winner as AHL MVP, Tyler Johnson, the Crunch is the highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference, averaging 3.28 goals per game. Syracuse made the Calder Cup playoffs last year, falling 3-1 to the St. John's IceCaps in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

Syracuse will host the first two games of the best of five quarterfinal series, starting on Saturday, April 27th at the War Memorial at Oncenter in Syracuse with a 7:30 pm puck drop. Game 2 will also be at the War Memorial at Oncenter on Sunday, April 28th, starting at 7:30 pm. Game 3 will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland on Thursday, May 2nd at 7 pm. If necessary, Game 4 would be played at the Civic Center on Friday, May 3rd at 7 pm. A decisive Game 5 would move back to the War Memorial at Oncenter on Sunday, May 5th with a 7:30 pm face off.

The Pirates have not faced the Syracuse Crunch since 2010, when the Pirates were affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres and the Crunch were affiliated with Anaheim Ducks. The Pirates defeated the Crunch as part of their franchise record 11 game winning streak on February 12, 2010 with a 3-1 victory at the Cumberland County Civic Center in their last meeting. The Pirates and Crunch have not met in the playoffs during their respective histories.

The Pirates will play all home playoff games at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Tickets are also available at the Civic Center Box Office Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Adult Main and Quarter Deck tickets for the first round of the playoffs are $17. Youth/Senior/Student tickets are just $15 per game for the first round. Premium Deck tickets are $20 for any seat. Order your tickets now and save the $1 per seat day of game charge.
