April 21, 2013 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Crunch dropped their regular season finale to the Binghamton Senators in a 5-1 loss at the War Memorial.

With the loss, Syracuse ends the season with a record of 43-21-6-5, third in the Eastern conference. The Crunch will open round one of the Calder Cup playoffs against the Portland Pirates on Saturday, April 27.

Crunch goalie, Pat Nagle made his first AHL start and second appearance of the season stopping 32 of the 37 shots faced. Binghamton goaltender, Marc Cheverie and back-up Scott Greenham faced 37 shots combined as well, with Cheverie allowing a lone power play goal shortly before being replaced.

The Crunch went into the first intermission trailing by one after Binghamton took the lead at the 14:13 mark of the first period. Corey Cowick scored his 16th goal of the season, assisted by Derek Grant and Cole Schneider.

Less than five minutes into the second period, the Senators increased the lead to 3-0 after netting goals by Grant and Cody Ceci. Grant penetrated the offensive zone, putting away a sharp wrister assisted by Chris Wideman. Ceci contributed his first goal of the season shortly after, assisted by Stephane Da Costa and Mark Stone.

Facing a 3-0 deficit in the third, the Crunch aggressively attacked a power play opportunity to end Cheverie's shutout bid. Andrej Sustr scored for the Crunch during a Senator double minor high-sticking penalty. After fluid puck movement in the offensive zone, Sustr fired a shot that Binghamton defenseman Daniel New inadvertently deflected past Cheverie at the 6:47 mark. It was Sustr's 2nd goal of the year for the Crunch and was assisted by Mark Barberio and Dan Sexton.

Countering the Crunch pressure, Schneider added a goal of his own for the Senators as they led 4-1 with 7:47 remaining in the third period. Cowick collected an assist on the play. In the final minute of play, Buddy Robinson added a final goal assisted by Pat Cannone, extending the Binghamton lead to four.
