Portland Gets Back to Winning

June 14, 2014 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Portland Chinooks News Release

PORTLAND - A last-minute change in opponent didn't phase the Portland Chinooks at all. A win was just what they needed after losing a season-worst three straight games, and win is just what they got on Friday evening at Eastmoreland Courts, 125-105 over the International Basketball League All Stars, made of up players hoping to get onto a full-season team.

The game was never really in doubt as Portland led 36-23 after the first period and by seventeen, 65-48 at the break. The IBL squad shaved the deficit to near single figures in the third and even outscored the home team by four in the quarter, but the more-polished Chinooks showed why they're a contender for the championship. Portland led 96-83 at the end of three and would finish off the team that was put together on short notice with a 29-point final period.

The win gives Portland (8-5) a win that was a little overdue. The teams ahead of them in the standings both had victories on this night, so the Chinooks couldn't make up any ground in the standings. They still trail Vancouver by one game for second place, and are three and a half back of first place Bellingham.

The leading scorers were no surprise as the league's third and fourth best scorers delivered once again.

6'6" forward Germain Jordan (Dillard University, Wilson H.S.) hit for 32 points with three triples and crashed the boards with fourteen rebounds. He also had five assists. Jared Cunningham (6'9" F Cleveland State) added 28 points. Mike Taylor had his best game as a Chinook with 18 points. Justin Steinke added 16 and the team got ten from Antone Jarrell. Steffen Harvey had a season-high in rebounds with eleven and added five assists.

The next Chinooks home game is this Tuesday, June 17th at 7:00pm versus the LoneStar Strikers from Texas. They're traveling through the northwest playing four games in five nights. Portland hopes to catch them a little tired. The schedule had been adjusted a bit. As a result, the Chinooks will play four games in six nights themselves this coming week. A game rescheduled from this weekend against Salem has been moved from the capital city to 212 Sports in Clackamas for a 7pm tip-off on Thursday,June 19th. A home game against the Seattle Flight has been added on Sunday, June 22nd at 5:00.

We invite you to cheer on your home team to victory at Eastmoreland Courts (3015 SE Berkeley Place). Tickets for all games are available at the door. You can watch the action live or on-demand with Jeremy Scott on the call at IBL.com/video.php or YouTube.com/IBLHoops.
