Toronto 8 London 7

Toronto took a close game in London Friday night defeating the Majors 8-7. Christian Botter got the win in relief with two shutout innings. Marek Deska started the game for Toronto and went six innings, striking out four before giving way to the bullpen. Justin Cicatello earned the save while striking out two in the ninth.

The Maple Leaf's offence had several standouts including Damon Topolie with three hits in five at-bats raising his average to .393 on the year, good for third in the league. Leadoff hitter Glenn Jackson walked twice, scored a run, stole two bases and currently sits sixth in the IBL batting championship. Jon Waltenbury hit his third home run of the season and Justin Gianfrancesco hit his first.

Jordan Skavinsky took the loss for London, giving up two runs in the ninth. London's Byron Reichstein had three hits including two home runs, his third and fourth of the season. His four dingers ties him for third in the league with teammate Chris Dennis who had three hits himself on the night.

Toronto, now 8-7 in 2014, next plays Sunday when they host the Hamilton Cardinals. London, falling to 7-6 with the loss, next sees action Saturday when they visit the Brantford Red Sox.

Kitchener 3 Hamilton 2

The Panthers came to Hamilton Friday night and won a close game over the Cardinals 3-2. Brian Oliver took the win in relief with a standout performance. Oliver tossed three shutout innings, striking out six with no hits and no walks. Kitchener's starter, Shaun Hancock had a solid outing going six innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out four.

Hamilton's pitchers were nearly as effective with starter Brett van Pelt putting in a quality performance allowing only two runs over the first six frames. Tanner Guindon took the loss for the Cardinals in relief. Guindon worked the eighth inning and allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out two.

Between the two teams, Hamilton's Johnathan Solazzo was the only player to manage two hits. Kitchener improves their record to 6-8 on the campaign while Hamilton's loss drops them to 3-8 in a tie with Burlington for last place.

Kitchener hosts the Guelph Royals Sunday afternoon. Hamilton visits Brantford on Saturday.

Brantford 5 Burlington 3

The home team took care of business as the Red Sox beat the visiting Burlington Bandits 5-3. Nathan Forer gave the Red Sox a great start and they didn't waste it. Forer threw seven innings, striking out nine Bandits. Dan Killian recorded the final three outs for the save.

Blake Weston took the loss after giving up four runs over five innings. Weston only walked one batter and struck out four, but did give up seven hits. Burlington's Tyler Patzalek and Brantford's Jeff Hunt and Tim Smith each had two hits on the night. Hunt's batting average ticked up to .372 good for seventh in the IBL. A few spots ahead of him is the Bandit's Brad Bedford, who sits second in the league at .412 after a game in which he had one hit.

Brantford hosts Hamilton Saturday evening. The Bandits will welcome the Barrie Baycats to town Saturday afternoon.
