Port Huron wins 2-1 over Bloomington

PORT HURON, Mich. - Tab Lardner had a goal and an assist to lead International Hockey League-leading Port Huron to a 2-1 victory over Bloomington before 2,599 people Saturday night at McMorran Arena.

The triumph moved Port Huron's record to 34-16-5-1 (74 points), while the PrairieThunder dipped to 23-28-1-3 (50 points). The teams meet again Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Port Huron.

The IceHawks scored the game's first goal with 7:18 remaining in the second period on Derek Patrosso's goal with assists to Tab Lardner and Derek Merlini.

Lardner extended the lead to 2-0 with 12:17 left in the game off an assist by Kris Vernarsky.

Bloomington got its goal by rookie Mike Kusy, the first of his professional career, with 2:42 to go in the game. The assists were by John Nail and Brent Clarke.

Jason Wolfe suffered the loss in goal for the PrairieThunder despite stopping 26 of 28 shots. Larry Sterling earned the win by pushing aside 23 of 24 shots. Port Huron had a 28-24 advantage in shots.

Both teams were unsuccessful on three power play attempts.
