Flint nipped by Lumberjacks

FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the International Hockey League put forth another tough effort but give up a late goal to the Lumberjacks in a 4-3 defeat in front of 2,788 at Perani Arena on Saturday night.

Muskegon opened the scoring with Robin Bouchard (29) at 1:16 of the first period for the 1-0 score. The Generals tied it as Rob Voltera (10) rifled a shot from the top of the circle on the power play to be Lumberjacks' goaltender Clayton Pool for the 1-1 tie.

In the second period, Muskegon's Luke Stauffacher (26) tallied a power play marker at 2:59 for the 2-1 lead. Flint would tie it again as Frank Littlejohn (23) scored his third goal against his former teammates at 16:24 for a 2-2 score after 40 minutes of play.

Flint took the lead in the third period as Maxime Lincourt (16) scored a short-handed goal at 4:51 to make it a 3-2 game. Muskegon tied it up while on that same power play as Billy Collins (16) scored at 5:34 for the 3-3 deadlock. It would stay that way until right winger Chad Costello (15) scored the game-winner at 17:54 for the 4-3 final.

The Generals (17-35-2-4, 40 pts) are still in 6th place in the International Hockey League. Muskegon (33-16-3-3, 72 pts.) remains 2 points behind Port Huron as a result of the Icehawks' 2-1 victory over Bloomington on Saturday night.

The Generals prepare now for "Spaghetti on Ice" on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Perani Arena. Admission is $10.00 and the doors open at 3:00 p.m. The dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. with all of the proceeds to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
