Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals surrendered two third-period power play goals and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Port Huron Icehawks on Saturday night at Perani Arena and Event Center.
The Generals record fell to 5-10-1-1, while Port Huron won their ninth of the season. It was one of the better defensive games played by the Generals in the contest limiting the Icehawks to just four goals and two even strength. After scoring 13 goals in their last two games, the Blue and Gold's offense couldn't connect.
There was a lot of intensity and emotion between the Flint Generals and the Port Huron Icehawks in the opening 20 minutes. Port Huron collected the game's first goal when Derek Patrosso scored his second in as many games to make it 1-0.
In the second period, the Icehawks added to their lead with a goal near the midway mark. Flint had some great scoring chances but they were denied by Larry Sterling who looked solid through 40 minutes.
The third period saw Port Huron score two goals on the power play to extend their advantage to 4-0 before the Generals finally got on the board. Kyle Deck notched his fourth and first even strength. It was the lone blemish on the night of Larry Sterling who turned aside 33 of 34 shots. Chad Alban stopped 23 of 27 he faced.
The Generals were without Kris Mallette nursing a minor injury, Greg Bullock, Nick Bet and Mike Alexiou. Chad Alban started in goal and played very well in the opening 20 minutes.
Thanksgiving Holiday week has the Flint Generals playing in three contests beginning next Thursday in Fort Wayne against a struggling Komets team that has lost four in a row.
