Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (12-6) came back to beat the Kane County Cougars (9-9) in their first two games of the series, but the Atomic Pork Chops wouldn't let that happen Sunday afternoon with a 10-5 win at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Sunday was the first of four dates where the Cougars change into their alter ego of the Atomic Pork Chops, and the offense had a new look too.

For three straight games, the Pork Chops scored first on a solo home run. Luis Roman belted his first homer of the season for a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Then the RedHawks did what they've done best this series: take the lead with a big inning. Fargo-Moorhead plated four in the 2nd to put starter Jack Fox on the hook for the loss.

The Pork Chops made it known that they wouldn't roll over easily this time, as Nick Santoro singled in Gavin LaValley and Roman double home another run to bring the Pork Chops within 4-3. That started a trend of nine unanswered runs.

The biggest inning for the Pork Chops came in the 5th inning, when Jeffrey Baez and Kacy Clemens connected on back-to-back homers. Baez's two-run blast was his third of the year and homestand. It also gave the Pork Chops back the lead. Then Clemens sent his first homer out as a solo shot. It was the first time the Cougars went back-to-back since Jose Herrera and Jorge Peres did it on April 13, 2019.

The Pork Chops never looked back as they put up four more runs in the 7th, highlighted by a Cody Young two-run single.

Christian DeLeon (1-0) took over after Fox, tossing three scoreless innings for the win. Mark Seyler coughed up one run in two frames for the hold. Kyle Huckaby finished off the 9th.

After an off-day on Mondy, the Pork Chops return to their original identity as the Kane County Cougars on Tuesday. They begin a three-game series visiting the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
