Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release

Asheville, N.C. – The Asheville Aces scored four straight goals and never looked back as they defeated the Winston-Salem Polar Twins by a score of 5-3 Friday night at Asheville Civic Center.

Dan Pszensczny got things rolling for Asheville half way through the first period, scoring a power play goal for his first of the season. Chris Affinati made it 2-0 at the 17:37 mark of the first period, with assists being credited to Brett Roat and Peter Bournazakis.

Peter Cermak gave the Aces the 3-0 edge just over three minutes into the third period before Pszensczny added his second of the game for a 4-0.

Shaun Aebig began the rally for Winston-Salem in the second, batting home a rebound past Aces goaltender Mark Scally for a 4-1 score. The goal was Aebig’s third of the season and came at the 14:19 mark. Graham Dearle made it 4-2 just under five minutes later, wristing a shot low to Scally’s stick side from the left wing face-off circle, and giving the Polar Twins the momentum heading into the third period.

Richard Gustafsson brought the Polar Twins within one at 4-3, but Asheville’s Janis Tomans capitalized on a mistake off the boards to give the Aces the 5-3 victory.

“Little mistakes are costing us games,” said Polar Twins Head Coach Bryan Wells. “We were never completely out of the game and if we keep working hard, we will get the rebounds and start making things happen.”

Sunday the Twins head to Fayetteville to face the FireAntz at 6:00 p.m. Visit Pointstreak.com for up to the minute information on the Polar Twins and the rest of the SPHL.
