Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

Charleston, WV (January 29, 2010) - The West Virginia Power announced today that a fireworks show, presented by Massey Energy, will be added to the festivities at tomorrows Polar Plunge. The fireworks show will begin at 6:00 PM. The event will be held at Appalachian Power Park this Saturday, January 30th as a fundraiser for the Special Olympics.

In addition to presenting the fireworks show, Massey Energy is also backing Mark Clemens, Massey's Senior Vice President of Group Operations for the Plunge. Mark will be the first to take the plunge and his goal is to be the top fundraiser in Charleston's four year history of hosting the event.

"It's a difficult time to fundraise and those that are willing to give will typically write a check and get back to business," said Power Executive Vice President Andy Milovich. "It's exciting to see a community partner like Massey Energy get involved with volunteers to fundraise and bring their employees out in support of his efforts. To invest additional dollars in a fireworks show to kick off the event and support the Special Olympics is incredible. They're a great partner and we're excited to utilize Appalachian Power Park for such a great cause. It's what Mayor Jones and his staff envisioned when making this commitment to the community."

"The Polar Plunge is always an entertaining and comical event," stated Polar Plunge Coordinator John Corbett. "Its fun to see the participants get into the spirit and help raise money for a great cause."

Gates will open for the Polar Plunge at 4:00 PM with registration beginning at 4:30 PM. For more information about the event please contact John Corbett at (304) 345-9310 or the West Virginia Power Front Office at 304-344-2287.
