
Poirier Scores in 4-1 Loss to Wildcats

Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs (25-28-1-0) met the Moncton Wildcats (39-12-1-0) for the second time in three nights and their eight meeting of the season on Friday night. In a matchup with 26 penalties in total, neither team was feeling the love on Valentine's Day. The Sea Dogs lost 4-1, with a goal from Jérémie Poirier and 46 saves from Zachary Bouthillier.
The Sea Dogs got the first power play of the game when Alexander Khovanov was sent off for roughing at 7:28.
Jeffrey Durocher was sent to the box for unsportsmanlike conduct at 12:39. A shoving match at 13:41 sent Jordan Spadafore to join him, along with Jakob Pelletier and Benoit-Olivier Groulx of the Wildcats, and play went to four-on-four.
Mika Cyr opened the scoring with the extra ice, tucking in a pass in front of the net past Zachary Bouthillier at 13:54.
Play went to four-on-four again at 15:43 when Tristian DeJong was called for tripping and Joshua Roy and Roy was sent to the box for embellishment.
A tripping call sent Jérémie Poirier to off with 1:15 remaining in the period.
Shots at the end of the first were 20-6 for Moncton.
The Sea Dogs went to the power play 4:01 into the second frame, after Alexander Khovanov was called for hooking.
The Wildcat's Ryan MacLellan was sent off for checking from behind and the Sea Dogs capitalized on the power play. Jérémie Poirier fired a shot from the blue line and past Dakota Lund-Cornish's shoulder at 10:29.
Two minutes later, the Wildcats took the lead with a goal from Gabriel Fortier.
An interference penalty to Ben Badalamenti at 13:01 and a penalty to Zachary L'Heureux for unsportsmanlike conduct at 15:42 gave both teams another power play.
Shots after the second period were 36-10.
Alex Drover was sent off for checking from behind with late in the second period and the Wildcats started the third period with 1:19 left of the man advantage.
The Wildcats increased their lead with a shot by Jakob Pelletier from the blue line at 3:58.
The game intensified and the physicality increased until all the players on the ice found partners as fights tried to break out but were stopped by the referees. At 9:47 in the third period, Zachary L'Heureux received a roughing minor and a 10 minute misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct, Liam Léonard received two minutes for roughing and a game misconduct, Jeffrey Durocher received two for roughing and ten for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Matt Gould received a misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct.
With 35 seconds left, the Sea Dogs called a time out and pulled Bouthillier. The Wildcats sealed the deal with an empty net goal from Gabriel Fortier.
Shots at the end of the game were 50-17 for Moncton.
