CLEARWATER -- Brian Pointer had three hits and finished a triple short of the cycle on Sunday afternoon in Clearwater's 5-3 loss to Brevard County.

The Threshers (4-7) jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the second after Brandon Short was driven home on a single by Gabriel Lino. Pointer, who singled earlier in the inning, later scored on a wild-pitch.

Brevard County got a run back in the top of the fourth with two-outs, after a single by Victor Roache and a double by Mike Garza.

The Threshers responded with a run of their own in the home half of the fourth, after Pointer hit his fifth big fly of the season to right-center field to make the score 3-1. The Threshers' right-fielder is hitting .380 with two homers and nine RBI's in the month of June after finishing Sunday's game 3-for-4.

The Manatees (8-3) struck once again with two outs in the fifth, putting up three runs off of Clearwater starter Miguel Nunez.

Nunez (2-6) was charged with the loss after tossing 4.2 innings and allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking one.

Damien Magnifico earned the victory for Brevard County, throwing five innings and surrendering three runs on five hits. Magnifico (5-4) struck out six and walked two. Mike Strong picked up his third save by tossing the final four innings and limiting the Threshers to just two hits.

Clearwater has the day off on Monday but returns to action on Tuesday night at Bright House Field as the Threshers host the Dunedin Blue Jays. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and coverage on threshersbaseball.com begins at 6:45 p.m.
