Plenty at stake in final week of regular season

Published on April 6, 2015 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

Entering the final week of the 2014-15 ECHL regular season, the Brabham Cup, a division title and five playoff spots are still to be decided.

Four teams still have a chance to capture the Brabham Cup as regular-season champion, and home-ice advantage throughout the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Toledo, which has set an ECHL record with a 54-point turnaround from last season, leads the way with 103 points. The Walleye have a magic number of five points to clinch the top spot in the league. Florida sits in second place with 101 points, with Allen third with 100. Idaho also has 100 points, but with just one game remaining, cannot catch Toledo. Fort Wayne has 98 points, and still has an outside chance of finishing first overall.

The North Division title is still in play for both the Walleye and Komets with three games remaining. Toledo has a five-point lead over Fort Wayne, and has a magic number of two points to clinch the division.

Two playoff spots remain up for grabs in the North Division, with Kalamazoo, Cincinnati, Wheeling and Indy fighting it out to see which two teams will advance to the postseason. The K-Wings enter the final week of the season in third place with 73 points, and have four games remaining. Kalamazoo's magic number to clinch a playoff berth is four points. Cincinnati won each of its three games last week to move into the final playoff spot in the division with 71 points. The Cyclones are three points ahead of both Wheeling and Indy.

Orlando enters the final week with a magic number of one point to claim the final playoff spot in the East Division over Greenville.

In the Central Division, Tulsa and Wichita are the two teams alive for the final playoff spot. The Oilers hold the final spot entering the week with 75 points, three ahead of the Thunder. Both teams have three games remaining, including a pair of head-to-head games in Wichita on Wednesday and Friday.

Utah swept a pair of home games against Alaska over the weekend to jump ahead of the Aces by three points for the final Pacific Division playoff spot with three games remaining for both clubs. The Grizzlies wrap up the season with a game in Idaho and two in Colorado while the Aces end the season with a three-game home series against Ontario.
