Playoffs well within sight for Miami FC

August 28, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

Miami, FL- Miami FC is enjoying their best soccer so far this year in the final stretch of the season. The South Floridian squad has won 4 of the last 5 games and is currently in 5th place. (The first 6 teams in the standings make it to the play-offs.) Also, Miami FC is the top scoring team in USL First Division, with 42 goals so far; five more than Seattle whom is currently second.

Miami FC had a great presentation on Sunday afternoon at Tropical Park Stadium. The squad lead by Chiquinho de Assis slaughtered the Atlanta Silverbacks 7-1.

Diego Walsh has been unstoppable lately. The Brazilian midfielder scored twice against Atlanta, and has accumulated 4 goals in the last 4 games. "I think this game against the Silverbacks reflects how we are feeling lately. It seems as if we have found our rhythm right when we had to. Also, I knew that once I scored the first goal, everything would start falling into place for me," commented Walsh.

Romario is second in the league in goals, with 17, only one goal behind Seattle's young star William Weaver. It is good to point out though that the Brazilian star has played in five games less than the Sounders' forward. On Sunday, Romario had his second hat-trick of the year.

Miami FC plays the Minnesota Thunder on Friday, September 1st at Tropical Park Stadium at 8:00PM and this is the last regular season home game. Miami FC finishes their 2006 campaign with their last two regular season games the following weekend in Puerto Rico.
