Playoffs open Wednesday in Kannapolis

September 8, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The regular season is in the books, but the fun is far from over at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators are entering the playoffs for the first time since winning the South Atlantic League championship in 2005 and tickets are available now for the first round clash with the Lakewood BlueClaws. Kannapolis will welcome in the Phillies affiliate for the first game of the 2009 postseason on September 9 at 7:05 p.m.

Kannapolis heads to the playoffs with the best overall record in the South Atlantic League this season and the most wins since becoming a White Sox affiliate in 2001.

Tickets for the contest are available now online at IntimidatorsBaseball.com, over the phone at (704) 932-3267 or in-person at the Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium ticket office. Ticket prices for the playoff matchup are the same as the regular season, as reserved seats are $8 and general admission tickets are $6.

Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:05 p.m. first pitch. The game will be a Wet Your Whistle Wednesday with food and drink specials available throughout the ballpark.

The Intimidators will send their star left-hander Charlie Leesman to the mound for Game 1 on Wednesday. Leesman (13-5) is the league leader in wins this season and is the lone remaining member of Kannapolis' Opening Night rotation. Lakewood will counter with 2009 draft selection Matthew Way. Way (4-1) has been strong in the Phillies system since finishing up a four-year career at Washington State University, though is a recent addition to the BlueClaws after opening his time as a professional with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the New York-Penn League.

The best-of-three series will continue on Friday and Saturday, if necessary, at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ. The winner will be crowned Northern Division champion and take on either Greenville (Red Sox) or Asheville (Rockies) in a best-of-five South Atlantic League Championship Series opening on Monday, September 14 at the Northern champions ballpark.
