TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (4-3) and Utah Grizzlies (4-2) play the first match of their best-of-seven Pacific Division Finals series. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Central Division Finals (Allen Americans vs. Rapid City Rush) in the Western Conference Finals. Ontario finished 6-3-1-1 against Utah during the 2014-15 regular season, winning the final meeting by a score of 5-0. This is the second time in postseason history that the Reign and Grizzlies will face each other; Ontario previously swept the Grizzlies four games to none in 2013.
SHEEN CEMENTING CLUTCH POSTSEASON REPUTATION:
Everett Sheen's second period goal in Game 7 ultimately stood up as the game-winner, as well as the series-clinching goal. This is not the first time that Sheen has scored a big goal in Kelly Cup Playoffs action: the forward also sent the team to the second round for the first time in 2013; coincidentally, an overtime goal in the four-game sweep of the Grizzlies.
REGISTER LEADING BLUELINERS:
Defenseman Matt Register leads all ECHL blueliners in postseason points (8). The third-year Reign defenseman is also tied for the league lead in goals by a rearguard (4).
FIRST OUT OF THE GATE:
So far in the 2015 playoffs, the Reign have scored the first goal in only one of their matches; they are 1-0 in that situation. Utah was limited to only two first goals in its six-game series against Idaho; the Grizzlies are 2-0 when scoring first.
