KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley are happy to announce the return of the 2008 Northern League Playoff's Most Outstanding Player, Jim Fasano, for the 2009 season.
Fasano, 25, spent the first four years of his professional career in the Texas Rangers organization following his selection in the ninth round of the 2004 amateur draft. In his first year in independent baseball, the left-handed slugger posted a .292 average with the T-Bones and paced the league in home runs (20), RBI (84), total bases (196) and extra-base hits (49).
"Getting Jim back is a great boost to our 2009 squad," said McCauley. "He had a great season last year and we look for him to continue his success in the middle of our lineup."
Fasano earned numerous honors during the 2008 campaign, including two Player of the Week awards for the weeks ending on May 26 and July 7. He was the starting DH for the I-29 team in the 2008 All-Star Game held in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was named to the Post-Season All-Star Team, also as DH. Fasano capped off his stellar season with the Playoff MOP Award after hitting .571 in the Championship Series. Overall in the playoffs, Fasano posted a .462/.533/.846 line with three home runs and 10 RBI. All three of his home runs came in the Championship Series.
