August 4, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Kenosha, WI- Behind three excellent pitching performances from Jeremy Graf (RHP/Flagler), Matt McCarthy (LHP/Penn State), and Chad Dullnig (RHP/Ranger College), the Bullfrogs (39-28) took down the Kingfish (46-21)for the fifth time this season by a score of 4-2.
Five wins against the Kingfish are the most any team has recorded against the first place club. It also lifted the Bullfrogs to their second straight win with just five games remaining.
Green Bay's offense started early with three runs in the first against starter Rico Garcia (RHP/Hawaii Pacific). Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) got it started with an RBI single and Danny Rosenbaum (Louisville) roared a double to the right center gap for two more runs.
Making his first start this season, the usual all-star closer, Jeremy Graf (Flagler), allowed one unearned run in the first on a throwing error that scored Alex Borglin (Central Michigan) to run the score to 3-1 Bullfrogs after one frame.
But he tossed three straight scoreless in innings 2-4 in a pivotal start in which he lasted 5IP/5H/2R(0ER) in an outing in which he also had no walks. Graf also logged just 75 pitches, 53 for strikes.
The Kingfish added another unearned run on the board in the fifth when Eric Filia (UCLA) bashed a two-out RBI single to make it 3-2 Bullfrogs.
In need of more offensive support Jack Strunc (Washington State) hit a groundball to shortstop in the sixth that was coughed up for an error and Paul Jacobson scored his second run of the game.
A combination of Matt McCarthy and Chad Dullnig rounded out the game as they tossed a combined 4IP/3H/0R/3K-1BB.
Dullnig impressively set down Zach Weigel (Seton Hall), Borglin, and Filia to end the game as Green Bay will break for the Major League Dreams Showcase tomorrow.
Jeremy Graf (1-0) picked up the win, Rico Garcia (3-4) the loss, and Chad Dullnig (1SV) the save.
The Bullfrogs play next on Wednesday, August 5th against the Kingfish at Simmons Field. Sam Brunner (RHP/Dayton) gets the start.
