Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, WA: The AquaSox hung on to beat the Vancouver Canadians in a matinee nail-biter, 6-5, this afternoon at Funko Field. Catcher Andy Thomas showed us all why he was named one of Minor League Baseball's High-A Players of the Week last week, throwing out three runners at second base and going 3-3 at the plate with one RBI.
The Frogs showed a lot of fight in this contest as Vancouver scored runs in each of the first three innings. After falling behind 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second, AquaSox Designated Hitter Dariel Gomez ripped an RBI single to drive in Thomas. A throwing error by Vancouver right fielder Mack Mueller also allowed third baseman Cole Barr to score on the play, tying the game 2-2.
After Vancouver reclaimed the lead on a two-run triple by first baseman PK Morris, Everett shortstop Noelvi Marte brought the Frogs back to within one run with a mammoth 429-foot solo home run to deep center field, his tenth home run of the season.
The fourth, fifth and sixth innings proved to be scoreless for both teams. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that Thomas continued his hot hitting with a single that scored Marte on yet another Vancouver throwing error from the outfield.
Leon Hunter, Jr came in to pitch the top of the eighth with the score all tied up at 4-4 but couldn't hold the lead as former Everett AquaSox Tyler Keenan hit a leadoff double and scored later in the inning, giving the Canadians the lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Gomez homered deep to left field tying the score once again. The eighth inning magic continued as pinch hitter Trent Tingelstad gave Everett its first lead of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Isaiah Campbell came in for the save opportunity with a 5-4 lead, and despite a couple of base runners, was able to record the save thanks to a swift double play by Barr to end the game. It was Campbell's eighth save of the season.
Everett evened up the home stand with the win and looks to continue their second-half success as they find themselves one game above .500 in the standings at 6-5. The Frogs will be back at Funko Field tomorrow night with first pitch at 7:05pm.
