Vancouver Canadians News Release
EVERETT, WA - The Vancouver Canadians bullpen faltered late and allowed the Everett AquaSox (Mariners) to hand them a 6-5 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Funko Field.
Vancouver jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second. Zach Britton delivered a two-out RBI single in the opening inning to start the scoring then Andres Sosa doubled home Miguel Hiraldo - who singled and stole second - in the next inning.
After Everett tied it with two in the bottom of the second, the C's retook the lead in the third. A lead-off single from Addison Barger and a Britton walk put two men on for PK Morris, who tripled home both to make it 4-2.
The Frogs scored a run in the bottom of the third to pull within a run, but the lead held until the bottom of the seventh when the AquaSox used a one-out walk and a two-out single to tie the game 4-4.
Former 'Sox slugger Tyler Keenan doubled to start the eighth and came home on a groundout later in the inning to put the Canadians back in front, though the lead didn't last long. Dariel Gomez hit a lead-off homer in the eighth to even the score at five and two more consecutive hits - a single and a double - put runners at second and third. A sacrifice fly brought home the eventual winning tun to put the Mariners affiliate in front for good. Vancouver put the tying and go-ahead runs aboard in the top of ninth but a game-ending double play cut the rally short as the Canadians fell 6-5.
Three C's hitters - Barger, Hiraldo, Keenan and Damiano Palmegiani - had multiple hits, led by Barger's three. Seven of nine starters finished with a knock.
7 Blue Jays prospect Sem Robberse made his team-high 13th start of the year and went four innings in which he gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
The C's and 'Sox continue their series Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. #22 Blue Jays prospect Chad Dallas makes his Funko Field debut against Everett's Logan Rinehart. Coverage can be found on CanadiansBaseball.com and the Sportsnet Radio Network.
