Platzer Earns Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

Princeton, NJ (Oct. 24th) - The Wichita Thunder, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, AHL's Bakersfield Condors and powered by Toyota, announced today that forward Kyle Platzer has been named as the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 16th through the 22nd.
Platzer recorded five points in two games this past weekend against the Rapid City Rush. He had a goal and an assist on Saturday night and followed that up with a three-point outing on Sunday. He netted a shorthanded breakaway goal that pushed the Thunder advantage to 2-0. Later in the first period, he tipped home a shot on the power play that increased the lead to 4-0 as Wichita scored five times in the first on Sunday afternoon.
A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Platzer leads the Thunder, and is tied for second in the league, with eight points (4g, 4a) in four games.
A former fourth round draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Platzer has 103 games of American Hockey League experience with Bakersfield and Oklahoma City.
Prior to turning pro, Platzer played for the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights and Owen Sound Attack, where he piled up 140 points (61g, 79a) in 203 career games.
On behalf of Kyle Platzer, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wichita youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 37,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
The Thunder hits the road for the first time this season to take on the Tulsa Oilers on Wednesday night in the StoneWolf Casino Cup Series.
