Wichita's Platzer Named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Kyle Platzer of the Wichita Thunder is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Oct. 16-22.

Platzer scored three goals and assisted on two others in two games last week as Wichita ran its season-opening winning streak to four games.

The 22-year-old recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Rapid City on Saturday and added three points (2g-1a) in a 5-2 victory against the Rush on Sunday.

A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Platzer leads the Thunder, and is tied for second in the league, with eight points (4g-4a) in four games.

Under a National Hockey League contract with the Edmonton Oilers, Platzer has tallied 28 points (9g-19a) in 103 career American Hockey League games with Bakersfield and Oklahoma City.

Prior to turning pro, Platzer had 140 points (61g-79a) in 203 career games in the Ontario Hockey League with London and Owen Sound.

On behalf of Kyle Platzer, a case of pucks will be donated to a Wichita youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 37,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
