Dallas, Tex. - More than 30,000 fans showed up at Pizza Hut Park for a pair of Interliga doubleheaders this weekend in Frisco. Eight of the best and most popular Mexican club teams converged on the new home of FC Dallas on Saturday and Sunday evening for the first time ever. These were the first non-MLS soccer matches to be played inside the five-month old stadium and they were welcomed with open arms by fans of The Beautiful Game throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The weekend got off to a roaring start as Pizza Hut Park hosted a record capacity crowd for matches between perennial powers Tigres and Necaxa and then the night's feature match between Chivas and Cruz Azul. The announced attendance of 22,322 was more than 1,000 fans more than the previous record of 21,193 at MLS Cup 2005 on November 13.

The sellout was just the third in Interliga history and marked the 10th time that more than 20,000 fans had turned up for an Interliga doubleheader. This was also the largest Dallas-based crowd in the history of Interliga, eclipsing the former mark of 20,918 which was set on January 9, 2005 at the Cotton Bowl.

"This was a great weekend for the sport of soccer here in Dallas," FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock said. "Beginning with the Interliga Welcome Reception on Friday night where over 300 local Hispanic Business, Political and Community leaders joined FC Dallas and Pizza Hut Park in welcoming the Presidents and management teams of the 8 Interliga teams and the Mexican Futbol Federation, to four great games that were played in front of over 30,000 fans in a world class setting at Pizza Hut Park on Saturday and Sunday, it was a true celebration of the beautiful game and we look forward to becoming a long-term home for Interliga."

More than 8,000 fans turned up for Sunday evening's doubleheader which saw Pachuca defeat Morelia and 2005 Apertura finalist Monterrey defeat Veracruz. For more information on all of the games, as well as the entire Interliga tournament, visit www.interliga.com.
