
Pittsburgh Xplosion acquire CBA All-Star Robert Griffin

PITTSBURGH, February 2, 2007 - The Pittsburgh Xplosion professional basketball team announced today that it had acquired Continental Basketball Association All-Star Robert Griffin from the Yakama Sun Kings for a Third Round Draft pick in the 2007 CBA College Draft.
Griffin, who currently ranks eighth in the CBA in scoring with an average of 19.1 points per game, was tabbed to represent the National Conference at the 2007 CBA All-Star game in Butte, Montana on Tuesday, February 6 at the Butte Civic Center. The 6-6 forward will instead represent the Xplosion and the American Conference. A pure shooter, Griffin stands second in the CBA in free throw percentage (.926) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.440). He will participate in the CBA Skills Competition Long Distance Shootout.
Griffin will be playing with his third CBA franchise in less then a month. He opened the year with the Utah Eagles, but was dealt to Yakama for future considerations on January 16.
Griffin played for current Xplosion head coach Jaren Jackson with the Gary Steelheads during the 2005-06 season. He helped the Steelheads reach the CBA finals that season. He previously played with the Michigan Mayhem in the CBA during the 2004-05 season. In 2003-04 he competed in England with Pertemps Birmingham Bullets, where he averaged 17.6 ppg. and 4.7 rpg. He also had a stint with the Harlem Globe Trotters during 2003.
Griffin played two seasons of college basketball at Southeastern Community College capturing team MVP honors and garnering Second Team Junior College All-America honors in 1998-99. He ranked eighth nationally that season with an average of 22.2 points per game. He transferred to Iowa for the 1999-00 season and started 19 of 30 games, averaging 12.2 points and shooting 40 percent from three point range. He enrolled at Kentucky Wesleyan in 2001, but did not compete and entered the 2001 NBA Draft as an early entry candidate.
Griffin will play his first game for the Black and Gold tonight when the team takes the floor against the Great Falls Explorers at the Four Seasons Arena at 9:05 PM. To make room on the roster the Xplosion placed Tedric Hill on the Injured Reserve List.
