Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
For the fourth straight night the Idaho Falls Chukars received a great pitching performance from their entire staff, but this time the offense rallied in support of a 4-1 Chukars win over the Orem Owlz Saturday night at Brent Brown Ballpark.
Picking up where Clayton Schulz, Ali Williams and Andrew Ferguson left off, Chukars starting pitcher Sam Selman held the top offense in the Pioneer League to just one run on three hits over his season high five innings pitched, allowing three walks and striking out seven along the way.
The Idaho Falls bullpen also continued its recent run of success, with Kevin Allen and Cory Hall combining to toss four shutout innings on just three hits to hold on to the victory.
Unlike the last two nights however, the Greybird offense showed signes of life Saturday with four runs, seven hits and even a couple of timely base knocks. Left fielder Nick Cuckovich got the bats going with a solo home run to left with one out in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Center fielder Ethan Chapman and second baseman Carlos Garcia would then team up for a couple of runs, one each in the fifth and seventh. Chapman walked and stole second base with two outs in the fourth and was driven in one batter later on a bloop RBI single to right by Garcia to put Idaho Falls ahead 2-1. The Chapman/Garcia connection would strike again in the seventh, with Chapman singling to center with one out then stealing second again. Garcia would follow with another RBI base knock to put the Chukars up 3-1. Right fielder Elier Hernandez would put the cherry on top with an RBI triple off the top of the center field wall to plate Garcia and end the scoring at 4-1.
Selman (2-0) earned the win for his outing while Owlz reliever Yancarlos Santiago (1-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits over his three innings pitched. Hall (2) took home the save for his two shutout innings of work.
With the win the Chukars move back to .500 at 10-10 while Orem falls to 8-12. The Chukars are now 4-2 against the Owlz this season. The two clubs will be back at it Sunday afternoon for game two of the 3-game series, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
