
Pit Spitters Record Win Number 50 in Shutout Victory

Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters defeated the Rockford Rivets 8-0 Thursday night to become just the fifth team in Northwoods League history to reach the 50-win plateau, in front of a crowd of over 3,700 fans. The win extends the Pit Spitters record for shutouts in a single season, taking their total to 14.
The home-side got the scoring started in the third inning behind a Michael Slaten (JR Benedictine) sacrifice fly, scoring Adam Proctor (SO Michigan State.) Daniel Head's (JR New Mexico State) two out, two RBI single in the fourth inning added to the lead, as did a two RBI sacrifice bunt by third basemen Andrew Morrow (JR Michigan State,) in the fifth inning. The Pit Spitters would push across three insurance runs in the eighth frame, taking the score to 8-0.
Andrew Hoffman (FR Oakland) threw the first three innings for the Pit Spitters, keeping the Rivets hitless and striking out two. He was followed by Will Buraconak (JR Indiana State,) who posted three scoreless relief innings to earn the victory.
Morrow led the offensive attack with a hit, three runs batted in, and a stolen base. He was joined by Head who drove in two, and Evan Maday (SO Hope) who singled twice after entering as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.
The Pit Spitters wrap up home regular season action Friday, with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Rockford Rivets. Every Friday is "Fireworks Friday," at Pit Spitters Park, with a post-game fireworks display. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. The Pit Spitters first home playoff game is Tuesday, August 13 at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
