Pit Spitters Fall Short of Second Straight Walk-Off Win

August 5, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters fell just short to the Rockford Rivets 5-4 on Friday night, leaving the tying and winnings runs in scoring position.

After walking off last night, they made a little rally in the ninth in search of back-to-back walk-off wins. They ultimately fell one hit shy in the series splitting loss.

Colin Summerhill delivered the go-ahead hit right away in the first. He scored Camden Traficante as the team leaders in runs and RBIs added one more to their season totals.

Pitching led the way for most of the game. Aaron Forrest went three perfect innings with four strikeouts. Ryan Insco went two more scoreless before Rockford broke through in the sixth. After five no-hit innings, the Rivets collected four hits to take a 3-1 lead.

It was the second game in three days the Pit Spitters took a no-hitter into the sixth inning.

The bats woke back up in the seventh inning. Three straight hits by Glenn Miller, Trey Truitt and Jacob Charon cut the lead to one. Evan Orzech tied it with a two-out single.

The Rivets loaded the bases in the ninth with two outs. After an 0-8 start to the series, Bryson Parks took an 0-2 pitch into right for a two-run single.

Traverse City responded by loading the bases in the bottom half. Charon's third hit of the night started the rally. A single by Alec Atkinson and a walk to Orzech loaded them with one out. Marshall Toole brought one in on a groundout, putting the tying run at third and the winning run at second. Traficante flew out to right field on a

2-2 pitch to end the game.
