
Pirates Win Big, Even up Series

BRISTOL, VA - The Bristol Pirates (19-21) scored all 13 of their runs between the fourth and the fifth inning in their 13-3 win over the Greeneville Reds (17-23) Wednesday night at Boyce Cox Field. Ivan Johnson finished 3-for-3 with a walk.
Johnson led off the game with a double, moved to third on an out, and scored the first run on A.J. Bumpass' sacrifice fly.
Bristol took the lead after a five run fourth inning. Fernando Villegas opened the inning with a single and scored on Aaron Shackelford's two-run home run to right field off RHP Tyler Garbee (L, 2-1). After Francisco Acuna walked and Jesus Val- dez singled, Garbee struck out Ernny Ordonez for the first out. Eli Wilson followed with an RBI-single, scoring Acuna. Two pitches later, Valdez and Wilson scored on Chase Murray's two-run single.
Johnson hit a solo home run to right field off RHP Adrian Florencio (W, 2-1) with one out in the fifth inning to cut the Reds deficit to 5-2. Allan Cerda followed with a single, moved first to third on a wild pitch and throwing error, and scored on Bum- pass' RBI-double.
The Pirates broke the game open with an eight run fifth inning. Villegas led off the frame with a solo home run to left field off RHP Patrick Raby. After a double and two walks loaded the bases, Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to extend Bristol's lead to 7-3. Murray followed with an RBI-single and Josh Bissonette hit a two-run double to run the lead to 10-3.
LHP Jose Zorrilla came on with two outs in the inning and inherited two base runners. Villegas popped Zorrilla's first pitch up to second, Tyler Callihan dropped the ball leading to another run. Two pitches later, Shackelford hit a two-run double to round out the scoring.
Florencio earned his second win of the year. He allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over five innings. Garbee allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings for his first loss.
The Reds and Pirates will play a rubber match at Boyce Cox Field Thursday night, with first pitch coming at 6:30 PM. LHP Jose Salvador (2-3, 5.19) will start for Greeneville against RHP Santiago Florez (0-0, 3.86).
