Massachusetts Pirates News Release
WORCESTER, MA. - The Massachusetts Pirates continue to bolster their offensive line, as the organization has announced the signing of center Jordan McCray. A newcomer to the Pirates, McCray (6'2", 336 lbs) brings an extensive amount of professional football experience to Massachusetts and believes that will bode well for him with his new team.
"I'm excited to keep playing football games for the Pirates," McCray told masspiratesfootball.com. "As a veteran now with a lot of experience, I believe I will step into a leadership role from the first snap." McCray was the Tampa Bay Vipers starting center in their abbreviated 2020 season.
The signing of McCray truly has Pirates president and general manager Jawad Yatim fired up for next season.
"This is one of our most influential signings of the off-season, to add a presence like Jordan in the middle of our offensive front should prove to be beneficial for us. He's played a lot of football at a high level and is filling a void that we've been looking to solidify since after the 2019 season. He's a strong addition for our ball club. I do want to thank former center Thomas Claiborne, he was a great player for us, and played a large role in our success in our first couple of seasons and we certainly appreciate everything he did for us. Glad to have Jordan aboard and looking forward to having all our guys get up here come March."
McCray's last stop in professional football was in 2020 for the XFL's Tampa Bay Vipers. Prior to that, he spent a large amount of the 2019 NFL offseason and all of training camp with the Chicago Bears. McCray also suited up for the AAF's Orlando Apollos in 2019.
McCray also brings arena football experience to the Pirates, which will help him in his transition back to the indoor game. He played three years in the Arena Football League, all for different teams: 2016 with the Orlando Predators, 2017 with the Cleveland Gladiators and 2018 with the Baltimore Brigade.
The Miami, Florida native also has additional experience in the NFL. Apart from his time with the Bears, McCray spent a large amount of the 2015 offseason with the Carolina Panthers. The year before that, in 2014, he was a member of the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. McCray got his first taste in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, also in 2014, and spent time on their practice squad that year as well. He has played both guard and center in his professional career.
McCray played college football in his home state at the University of Central Florida for four seasons (2010-13). His most notable achievement at UCF was being named to the All-American Athletic Conference First-Team in his senior season.
