Pirates Sign LB Terrance Smith

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed former National Football League linebacker Terrance Smith. The 6'2", 238 lb. former National Champion with the Florida State Seminoles played in 34 NFL games from 2016 through 2020 and was also a member of the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League this past season.
After taking part in the NFL Combine in 2016, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. After being waived in training camp, he signed on with the Chiefs practice squad. On November 1 of that season he was activated and remained with the team until October of 2018.He accumulated all of his NFL stats in 31 games with Kansas City. Smith made 33 tackles, had one sack, defended two passes and had an interception. In 2019 Smith had a brief stay with the Miami Dolphins and in 2020 joined the Arizona Cardinals where he appeared in three games. This past May he signed with Ottawa and attended training camp. Smith, who hails from Decatur, GA, had an impressive career at Florida State where he played in two games as a true freshman in 2011 before taking a medical redshirt due to injury. He went on to start in 29 of the 50 games he appeared. Over the course of five seasons, Smith made 222 tackles including 13 for a loss with four sacks. He also forced three fumbles, broke up four passes and had four interceptions. In his time with the "Noles" Smith had two games where he posted 13 tackles.
In the 2013 National Championship game, a 34-31 victory over Auburn, he recorded four tackles. Twice Smith was Honorable Mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference (2015 and 2013) and was an All-ACC Second Team performer in 2014 when he posted a season best 87 tackles. In 2016 Smith played in the East-West Shrine Game.
