
Pirates Sign Goaltender Nie

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have signed goaltender Ryan Nie to a Professional Try-Out Agreement.
The veteran goaltender comes to Portland from Kalamazoo of the ECHL where he was 3-0-1 on the season with 2.21 goals against average and a.926 save percentage. The 24 year-old from Nanticoke, Ontario is in his fifth pro season, the majority of which has been played in the ECHL. He did play one AHL game for Providence during the 2007-08 season.
The Pirates (4-8-0-0) continue a four-game home stand tonight when the Hershey Bears (8-4-0-0) visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. It's United Way Night as the Pirates welcome fans who have supported the 2009 United Way of Greater Portland Annual Campaign.
Sunday it's the Pirates and the Springfield Falcons (5-5-2-1) in a 4 p.m. game at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Bring your skates and stick around after the game to skate with the team, sponsored by Weight Watchers and Mercy Hospital.
