
Pirates Sign DB Jaylan Shaw

The Massachusetts Pirates have signed defensive back Jaylan Shaw. The 6'0", 190 lb. DB accepted an invitation to a National Football League (NFL) minicamp with the New York Giants this past May.
From 2017-2021, Shaw attended UCLA and after redshirting his first season, he saw the field in 43 games making 16 starts. In 2022, Shaw transferred to the University of Wisconsin as a graduate student and started 12 of 13 games recording 31 tackles and two interceptions. Shaw made a season high six tackles against Illinois and one of his "picks" came in the Badgers Guaranteed Rate Bowl victory.
In his redshirt freshman season at UCLA, Shaw earned honorable mention Academic All-Pac 12 team honors while playing in 12 games. As sophomore, he made his first interception against Cincinnati, returning it 66 yards.
In 2020, the Corona, CA native started all seven games for the Bruins and tied for the team lead with two interceptions including a 39-yard "pick six" against Stanford while posting a season best seven tackles against the Cardinal. In his final season in Westwood, Shaw tied for the team lead with three interceptions.
During his time at UCLA, Shaw made 88 tackles with two for a loss. He had six interceptions, broke up 17 passes, forced a pair of fumbles and recovered one. He also blocked a kick. In the classroom, four times Shaw earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll.
