Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have released Matt Caruana from his tryout agreement. The 24 year-old forward from Orono, Ontario registered two goals and two assists for four points in 20 games during his second stint with the Pirates.

The Pirates (19-15-5-2) return to action tomorrow (Friday) when the Worcester Sharks (24-13-1-2) come to the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start. In partnership with the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education, UNUM will recognize six teachers and four school administrators who have made a difference in the lives of students in our public schools and who represent excellence in the educational profession. The 10 people to be honored at this game were nominated and selected through UNUM's Fourth Annual Maine Educators' Hall of Fame, supported by the Portland Pirates. The UNUM Challenge between the Portland Pirates and the Worcester Sharks continues. At each game in each city, one lucky fan is chosen from the submitted entrees as the UNUM Challenge Fan of the Game. Each fan wins a replica jersey and receives five (5) tickets to a future game.
