Portland, Maine - The American Hockey League announced today two community visits that take place as part of the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic festivities.

On Tuesday, January 19th at 10:15 a.m. select AHL All-Stars and mascots will visit the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Players will visit patients, sign autographs and pose for pictures during the event, which has become an anticipated part of every AHL All-Star Classic.

The Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, one of the country's leading children's hospitals, is committed to enhancing the lives of children through excellence in patient care, research, and education. With over 46,000 annual patient visits, the hospital is recognized for excellence in cancer treatment, cardiology, neonatal care, and numerous other pediatric specialties. From the state-of-the-art hospital equipment and specialty programs, to the spacious children's play areas, Maine's only certified children's hospital is designed with children in mind.

Later in the day, Hannaford, Let's Go!, and select AHL All-Stars and mascots will travel to Plummer-Motz Elementary School in Falmouth, Maine to promote healthy, active lifestyles. AHL All-Star players and Let's Go! are teaming up to reinforce the Let's Go! 5-2-1-0 messaging, which encourages children to stay active and eat healthy in and outside of school. Hannaford will provide healthy snacks for the visit and students will get the opportunity to meet and interact with 10 of the All-Star players representing both the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars and the Canadian AHL All-Stars.

The third and fourth grader students at Plummer-Motz Elementary School are currently participating in the Let's Go! 5-2-1-0 Challenge for Healthy Living. Let's Go! is a community-based initiative to promote healthy lifestyle choices for children, youth, and families in 12 Greater Portland communities and throughout the State of Maine. The Let's Go! message, 5-2-1-0, stands for 5 or more servings of fruits and vegetables, 2 hours or less recreational screen time, 1 hour or more of physical activity, and 0 sugary drinks. The messages are used across multiple sectors with the intention of raising a healthier generation of children using clear and consistent messages regarding physical activity and healthy eating.

Students at Plummer-Motz have been encouraged to keep a daily log of their lifestyle throughout January and will discuss the importance of vegetables, fruit and physical activity as part of their physical education class. AHL All-Star players will remind students to stay focused on the Let's Go! 5-2-1-0 Challenge for Healthy Living and demonstrate how staying healthy, active and educated can help them reach their goals during the visit.
