Pirates Purchase Contract of Nick King
June 28, 2016 - Frontier League (FL)
Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Pittsburgh Pirates have purchased the contract of Boomers' shortstop Nick King, the second straight shortstop to leave Schaumburg for the affiliated ranks.
King is the third Boomer to have his contract purchased this year and the seventh in Boomers history. Josh Gardiner had his contract purchased last week by the New York Yankees and Kyle Ruchim went to the White Sox organization prior to the season. This signing matches the most players signed to affiliated ball in a year as the Boomers had three players signed last year. King is the sixth player in Boomers history to be signed during the season.
"As an organization we are glad to see Nick get this opportunity with the Pirates," Boomers General Manager Pete Laven said. "These signings validate the type of talent that is coming through Schaumburg and the Frontier League as a whole. The Boomers are becoming a pipeline to major league affiliated baseball."
