Slammers' Boo Vazquez Signs with Kansas City Royals

Joliet Slammers News Release

Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy are excited to announce Slammers' outfielder Boo Vazquez signed with the Kansas City Royals on Monday, June 27. Vazquez has been instrumental in helping the Slammers move into first place in the East Division and his contributions to the team have now provided him the chance to play in the Royals' organization.

This will be Vazquez's first opportunity to play in an MLB organization.

Vazquez has not only made a name for himself in Joliet in just the 38 games he has played with the Slammers, but his name is known across the Frontier League. He currently leads the Frontier League with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs.

In last weekend's match-up with the Lake Erie Crushers, Vazquez hit a grand slam in back-to-back games. Vazquez will leave the Frontier League batting .324 in 2016 with the Slammers and a career Frontier League average of .306.

The 23-year-old right fielder is from Youngstown, Ohio and attended the University of Pittsburgh where he played collegiately.

Vazquez joined the Lake Erie Crushers out of college. He played in 41 games for the Crushers in 2015, and has since surpassed all major stats from last season. Vazquez's 11 home runs is six more than he had last year with the Crushers, and his 39 RBIs is 12 more than last year. He also has the second highest on base percentage on the Slammers roster, behind Denzel Richardson, who joined the team a couple weeks ago.

In his time with the Slammers, Vazquez batted third nearly every game behind Alfredo Rodriguez and in front of Carter Bell. Vazquez's league-leading home runs and RBIs will be missed.

"We wish Boo much success," said Field Manager Jeff Isom. "He proved that he was one of the top players in our league, and because of that, he got an opportunity with Royals."

The Slammers moved their way into first place over the weekend, but will now have to find a way to maintain that position without their start right field.

Joliet's recent additions of Denzel Richardson and former Cubs prospect Rock Shoulders will allow the Slammers to fill that right field spot.
